Memory, however, often has a peculiar way of finding hope. And what stands apart the most amid so much devastation and loss is how we, as Tamils, came together, regardless of differences, to stand in defiant unity against those wicked ones who tried to destroy us with mayhem and madness. Sri Lanka can kill Tamils, but it can never conquer the Tamil people. The best revenge is living well. Diasporic Tamils are a living testament to this.
Eventually, as the Tamil slaughter in Sri Lanka slips from living experience, its historical understanding must be preserved, advanced and remembered. Diaspora Tamils of this and future generations to come must make sure neither our history nor the passage of time will deny them their honourable due nor will they be forgotten as footnotes to Tamil history. We must not allow splattered blood from Tamil victims of Sri Lankan tyranny to stain our conscience forever.
